About

Ask ten car guys what makes you one of them, and most will start quoting numbers. More power, more mods, quicker laps in a car they have never touched on a track they have never visited. I think that is the dullest part of being a car enthusiast.

You don't need to own something special to be an enthusiast. You don't need deep pockets, either. Buying expensive wheels does not make you more of a car person than someone who never did. It might be the sleeper that keeps embarrassing newer, louder machinery at the lights. It could be the half-finished project that has been taking up garage space longer than you have known half your mates. It might be the daily commuter you know so well that you can diagnose it by how it sounds. It doesn't have to be quick, rare or expensive to deserve a good story.

What counts is the interest: wanting to know how a thing works, why it was built that way and why people still care about it decades later. That is what Auto Affinity is about: the history, the engineering, the culture and the people around them. If you enjoy driving, learning, making and sharing the journey, you are in the right place.

My story

Headshot of R J

Hi, my name is RJ. I am an Engineer, Blogger and Car Enthusiast and I am the guy behind Auto Affinity.

Ever since I was a child, I loved taking things apart to figure out how they worked, though putting them back together was another story; that early drive to understand the inner workings of things is what led me to study mechanical engineering. Learning my first manual car really made me fall in love with driving itself, not just owning a car. For me, cars are self-expression. How you drive, what you drive, what you change on it, it's an extension of your personality and there is no one right way to be into cars and that's what makes it fun.

Through Auto Affinity, I teach something new about cars every time you stop by. Sometimes it is the topic you asked for, sometimes it is the rabbit hole you didn't know you needed. With my background in mechanical engineering, I try to break down the "why?" behind the machines, not just the "what?".

I am still early in this journey and a long way from where I want to take this. That is the fun part and this grows with you.

Welcome to Auto Affinity.
